Antique Care Notes! Candle Care Notes!
🖤🖤Tips for enjoying your piece!🖤🖤
Hello!
Here are a few tips for protecting your pieces! These are things I tell all my clients!
Try not to get it wet.
I put multiple layers of protective wax on the piece. However, in general, it is not a good idea since it is painted.
Try not to knick or scratch it. Use coasters, a cutting board or mat etc. If it is in a high traffic area, consider having a custom piece of glass made for it.
Whenever I have a client that is going to be using my piece in a kitchen or bathroom, I have them put a coat of clear matte polyurethane on it as an extra layer of protection.
Polyurethane is carried at Menards and most local hardware stores.
Note: Using Polyurethane may change the look and texture of your piece.
Remember, the life of your piece depends on how you care for it. So, care for it well!
DO NOT pull drawers out all the way. These pieces are old and may have gaps in the back. Doing this could damage the drawers.
It is normal for drawers to get sticky overtime. Add a bit of wax under the bottom of the drawer to help it slide easily.

Antique Note:
Antiques are beautiful pieces that have withstood the test of time. Please expect imperfections. These imperfections add to their beauty and charm. The imperfections are solely cosmetic and have nothing to do with it being a solid piece in good condition!
If you need anything else or have questions, feel free to ask! I am here to help if you need it.
Thanks again for your purchase!
Have a great day and enjoy your piece!

🕯️ Safe Candle Burning Tips
From Sea Maid’s Cottage
At Sea Maid’s Cottage, each candle is lovingly handcrafted to bring warmth, serenity, and a touch of fairytale charm into your home. To ensure the safest and most magical experience, please follow these important candle care and burning guidelines.
⸻
✨ Before Lighting
• Trim the wick to about ¼ inch before each burn to ensure a clean, even flame and to prevent soot or smoke.
• Place on a stable, heat-resistant surface. Always set your candle on a flat, non-flammable surface, away from drafts, vents, or anything that can catch fire.
• Keep away from children and pets. Curious hands and tails can easily bump into or knock over a burning candle.
• Inspect your candle before each use. Do not burn if the glass is cracked, chipped, or damaged in any way.
⸻
🌿 While Burning
• Let your candle burn to its full width the first time. Candles have a memory—if extinguished too soon on the first burn, it will only ever melt to that same point in the future, creating a tunnel. Allow it to burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of the container (usually 2–3 hours for standard jars).
• Never leave a candle unattended. Always remain in the room while your candle is lit.
• Avoid burning for more than 3–4 hours at a time. Extinguish, let it cool completely, then relight if desired.
• Keep the wax pool clear. Remove matches, wick trimmings, or debris from the melted wax to prevent flare-ups.
• Maintain space. Keep at least 12 inches between burning candles and any nearby objects.
• Do not move a burning candle. Allow it to cool completely before handling or relighting.
⸻
🌸 After Enjoying
• Extinguish with care. Use a candle snuffer or gently blow it out—never use water.
• Let it cool before touching or replacing the lid. Glass and wax stay hot for several minutes after extinguishing.
• Stop burning when ½ inch of wax remains. This prevents overheating or damage to the container.
⸻
